STeP, in partnership with Quicksand, developed a suite of survey instruments designed to systematically capture the perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors of key stakeholders – users, maintenance staff, facility managers, etc. – throughout the field-testing process. Partners may find it a useful starting point as they plan user studies during field testing.

Apartments in India, a Small-Scale Survey

For partners wishing to better understand building features in India, STeP conducted a small quantitative study to qualify and quantify residential structures (apartment buildings) suitable for testing decentralized wastewater treatment technologies. The study reviewed structures that connect to existing water and sewage lines, treat incoming waste and wastewater streams, and use recycled water for flushing.

The STeP team, in partnership with local firm, Purple Audacity, undertook a small, qualitative research study in India to assess stakeholder perspectives and build context around sanitation, new technologies, and water, among others. This work has been used to inform a series of qualitative and quantitative market research studies to size the opportunity and refine the value proposition of waste water recycling technologies.
